Neil de Mello, 03/06/2022I've had one pf these for about 30 years and it finally broke. It had had a lot of use in that time. The plastic ones don't cut the mustard as far as durability is concerned, so I was glad the metal ones are still being manufactured.

There’s a noticeable difference in weight but the build quality is so much sturdier than the plastic alternative. The sliding mechanism is a bit stiff but seems to be improving with use. Highly recommended, much better than the plastic kind in my opinion

Tony, 30/09/2020Stanley STA010095 9mm Snap Off Blade Utility Cutting Tool A very solid, safety conscious utility/craft knife. I'm used to using a retractable plastic body utility knife with a free sliding blade for general craft/diy cutting - so this innovative design took a few minutes to grasp. The threaded nut at the rear of the knife loosens the two halves of the knife body, enabling the ratcheted button to slide forwards/backwards to adjust the blade projection, or retract it for safety. Once you've adjusted your blade position, you tighten the threaded nut and everything is locked in place for the job (when finished you loosen the nut, retract the blade, tighten the nut again and it's ready for storage/carrying). Great value too, as these retail for about £5 generally and should last a lifetime under normal intended use.
